How To Install WordPress

Installing WordPress

In this installment of  How to Build a Website we will be installing WordPress.

If it’s your first time here please click on this link to go to my first post in the series.

So let’s get going. Remember to click on the images to enlarge them, and hit your back< button to come back to the tutorial.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First, enter you sites url into your browser , followed by /cpanel.
See below.
Site URL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You will then see the following screen.

Or this one.

Enter the username and password, from the confirmation email that Host Gator sent you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are now at your websites cpanel.
I must admit I’ve never taken the tour, so I just click No Thanks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Scroll down to the section Software/Services and click on the Fantastico De Luxe icon.

This is the next screen you will see.

Click on WordPress.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don’t worry if your screen isn’t exactly like the one shown.
I already have a website registered with Hostgator , that’s why you see the Current Installations on the screen shot.
Click on New Installation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Which will bring you to this page.

Fill in all the areas with arrows pointing to them.

In the areas that I have blacked out you will need to pick a User Name and Password.

Do not forget it, you will need it when you log in to your websites dashboard.

When you are done, click Install WordPress.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, that’s it. You are all done installing WordPress, and you have a blog.
To see your new blog simply enter the address into your browser, and there she is…
Don’t worry if it’s “a bit” plain right now. In the next installment of How to Build a Website, we will be choosing and installing a theme,  also we will be doing a bit of tidying up of your website.
As always,  Please leave me a comment.
If you liked this post , and this series on Building a Website, please Tweet and Share.
  1. Awesome tutorial, Neil – I love the use of images to help your readers follow along.
    I find your blog a refreshing example of taking seemingly complicated things and making them look sooo simple. It’s great and much appreciated.
      Hi Ana, I’m glad you liked it.
      I am a click here, click here sort of guy, so thought I would present the series the way that I would find easiest to follow, and hopefully other Newbies would too.
      I see some videos in my near future though, so stay tuned :)
      Thanks again,
      Neil
