How to Build a Website Wrap Up – Pt 2
Hi Everyone,
Click here for How to Build a Website Wrap Up Pt 1 , also if it’s your first visit here click my first post in the series
on How to Build a Website , for step by step instructions.
I just wanted to do a couple of thinks to our websites before I got into Premium Themes.
So if you go into your dashboard, remember its www. yoursitename.com/wp-admin.
You need to set some things up,
One ) go to Settings > General.
There is no wrong answer here, and you can’t mess it up, plus you can always go back and change the settings.
Two) is your tagline, so just write a little blurb about your site.
Three) enter your email address.
Four) adjust to your time zone.
Five) the way you want your date formatted.
Six) the way you want the date formatted.
Seven) save changes
Ok, one more for now. Click on the Image for the text.
I have updated the image below. I originally suggested that you have the date in the permalinks. Steve and Ana made the comments below that for better SEO to use ?/%postname%/ in the Custom structure field.
Thanks for the tip !!!
Well, that’s it for my series on How To Build a Website.
I really hope that you found it helpful.
My advice to you is to get your hands a bit dirty and check to see what’s happening under the hood.
Mess around a bit.
As always, if you’ve enjoyed this post please Tweet and share it, and if you have any comments or suggestions please leave them.
My next post will be on Premium Themes, and my personal favorite, The Socrate Theme….. I promise.
I didn’t want to mix up the two posts, but had to show you the tweaks to your dashboard first.
Take care,
Neil

Neil,
For your perma-link input those middle two are OK but the REAL best method is as follows:
Go to “custom structure” and enter the following:
/%postname%/
This makes the exact title of your article follow your main url. It is simply the best you can get for SOE purposes for the URL format
for example my last post (actually guest post)
http://www.stevescottsite.com/similarities-between-business-and-personal-relationships
It just is a way to strip out that unneeded “date” info

Hey Steve,
Thanks so much for stopping by, and for the great tip. Told you I was busy
I’m going to make those changes to my site, and update the info in the post.
Any time you’re in the neighborhood, please feel free to pop in, and share some of your expertise.
Steve walks the walk, and I suggest that anyone, not just the newbies, spend some time looking around his site at http://www.stevescottsite.com/
Thanks again,
Neil
Hi Neil,
Wow, adding the pictures in there really is a great touch. It helps to see what it looks like as you go.
Very well put together. I can see this really helping a lot of people.
Nice job!
Susanna
Hi Susanna,
Thank you so much for your support.
I really appreciate it.
Cheers,
Neil
I am with Steve Scott: /%postname%/ is the best link structure.
This is a very important aspect to decide on, since it’s very hard to change the structure later on.

Hi Ana,
Thanks you so much for your input.
When I was first thinking about the concept of Newbie2Newbie, I was hoping that some people like you, and Steve would come and share some of their experience, and knowledge here.
I am so happy that you have
